Twitterpated

Twitter.

I love it. I really do.

There has been quite a lot of discussion lately about Twitter reaching critical mass, that it is a fad that will die…etc.

I just don’t see it. I will use Twitter as long as it is around. Even if I have to pay for it at some point, I will. It is just too valuable to me.

I have met SO MANY people here that I would ordinarily have had no opportunity to meet. Influential bloggers, local movers and shakers…incredibly smart people that I have been able to connect to…bounce ideas off of and collaborate with. I am dumbstruck by the sheer volume of talent that I have access to at nearly any time, day or night.

For instance…In January, I was up late one night, on Twitter and was fortunate enough to get into a conversation with Guy Kawasaki. I invited him to join the local Twitterers at a Tweetup during his time in Austin during SXSWI. He agreed. I was terrified.

My friend Jeremy Arntz happened to be online at the same time, saw what happened…and immediately offered his assistance. Jeremy happens to be an amazing PHP Developer with really great web dev skills. He offered to set up a website & manage the online presence for the Tweetup.

The next day, Tim Hayden with GamePlan Event Marketing contacted me. He offered to assist with the event planning piece and with that…we were off!

We gathered sponsors, we got a venue (during SXSW this is no easy feat) and coordinated a really great event in March.

Now you tell me how a little recruiter in a little city would have been able to pull this off without the help of Twitter???

It wouldn’t have happened. Of this I am sure.

This is not an isolated incident as far as I am concerned either…I have met candidates, clients and made connections with people from all over the country. these are far more than casual relationships. These are not “sales” relationships. I call these people my friends and colleagues.

So, if you doubt the power of Twitter, or its value…consider my story and that of many others.

Embrace it, or be left behind.

I am here commenting because of twitter. I follow you as a way to learn and expand what I know. I learn and reinforce what I know each and every day. I have made new connections and solidified old connections. This would not hav happened with email, facebook or myspace. Simply put, Twitter is a powerful tool. @dmgerbino

I learn so much from people on Twitter and I’ve made some amazing friends and connections. Twitter is able to break down the walls that previosly kept us apart. On Twitter, people are people. You can @reply (or @username as it’s now known!) Eddie Izzard just as easily as you can @ your best friend and there’s a chance he’ll actually respond. Twitter connects people. Easily. It’s that simple and I couldn’t live without it!

I love twitter. I use a third-party tool called twitterfall.com which to me is a little
cleaner and more versatile tweeting interface. Trying to see if twitter
(as well as LinkedIn) can help me 1) move to Austin with connections and
contacts ready to go and 2) start a graphic design business while I’m at it.
Thanks for this (I found you on twitter) and do follow me if you wish!
